Zagrodnik
Crops (Latin hortulanus) - a farmer holding a farm with an area of no more than 1/4 of a rai. By virtue of having a modest piece of land, unlike the landowners, they were unable to feed the whole family, therefore they became the primary wage earner in the country.
The peasant population, referred to as a farmer, has been in existence since the 13th century. A farmer holding a cottage and a small piece of land until the liquidation of the serfdom was charged with performing free work for him up to 3 days a week. Some of the farmers, in addition to working in the field, were engaged in crafts. Farmers were recruited from the farms. The category of farmers has survived with little change to the beginning. In 1767 the Silesian farmers were 49%, 36% 36% and 15%.
