Armenian-Georgian war
Armenian-Georgian War - Armed Conflict between the Democratic Republic of Armenia and the Democratic Republic of Georgia from December 7th to December 31st, 1918. Causes
The fall of the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Empire as a result of the First World War caused independence movements in the region of the Caucasus, on the Russian-Turkish border that has been inhabited since antiquity by both Christian Armenians and Georgians. Both nations sought to create independent states from the territories to which they set historic laws. Course
In July 1918, armed Georgian troops captured the province of Lorri, mostly inhabited by the Armenian people. Armenia engaged in fighting with the Turkish army could not respond to this armistice. Georgia proposed joining the North Caucasus Republic, which the government in Yerevan has rejected. Towards the end of December, the Armenians sent Lori, Brochalo and Achalkalak troops with the task of controlling them. On December 11, the Armenians won the Georgian troops under Sanahin in Lorri, which gave them the opportunity to occupy this province. The British Mediation ended the fight at the end of the month. Rezultat
Both sides of the conflict ended the war in January 1919, with the help of the United Kingdom. The agreement was concluded in an atmosphere of mutual distrust. The war proved to be too costly for both countries, which had previously suffered heavy losses (especially Armenia) as a result of Turkish nationality policy. Armenia has agreed to withdraw Georgia's Ardahan and Achalkalaki, in exchange for the provinces of Lorri and Borchalo.
