APICS Association for Operations Management (APICS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the standardization of production control methods known as MRP and MRPII. It was founded in 1957 as the American Production and Inventory Control Society. She presents herself as "The Educational Society for Resource Management", thus emphasizing the training and certification of CPIM (Certification in Production and Inventory Management). Material Requirements Planning (MRP) - the basic standard for production and inventory control based on predefined production schedules was developed at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s.

Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II) is a collection of planning and management algorithms for all manufacturing enterprise resources created in the 1980s with the development of the MRP standard.

Currently, the standard includes such elements as order handling, production scheduling, material structure (BOM), route and work sockets, stock control, MRP, production control (CRP), cost analysis, production order accounting, receivable handling, electronic document exchange (EDI), management reporting.
