Chalcożel

Chalcoel - a type of aerogels built from [MQ4], [M2Q6] and [M4Q10] type anions, where M = Ge, Sn; Q = S, Se and Pt cations. Sulfur and selenium belong to the group of oxygenates - chalcogens, hence the name chalcozhel.

Chalcoels have the ability to efficiently absorb heavy metals (eg, 1 g chalcgel-1 (total formula Pt2Ge4S9.6) can absorb 645 mg Hg, reducing the concentration of this element in water to about 0.04 ppm) and hydrophobic aromatic hydrocarbons . They also show semiconductor properties. Bibliography
