Denotation (translation of Jerzy Pelec) - a dissertation by Bertrand Russell, first published in English in 1905, in the "Mind" (On Denoting, "Mind", New Series, Vol. Oct., 1905), pp. 479-493.
The text of Russell is considered one of the writings inaugurating the contemporary philosophy of language. It was a critical response to Gottlob Frege's article, Sens and Nominee (1892) and to Alexius Meinong's writings.
In this text, Russell proposed the original descriptive theory: he introduced (especially important for positioning languages) the distinction between definite and undefined descriptors. It also presents a solution to the problem of the veracity of sentences denoting objects or phenomena of the type "Modern King of France". Bibliography
