Pallor mortis - pallor which occurs almost immediately after death (in 15-120 minutes). Caused by the lack of blood flow through the capillaries throughout the body. It has a distinctive greyish or yellowish tinge which is sometimes referred to as "pale pallor."

In certain cases, such as carbon monoxide poisoning, the skin retains a pink color (outside areas of precipitation). Because pale skin can occur during life, eg in anemia, hypotension (shock, syncope), and appears very soon after death it plays a small or no role in determining the time of death. Bibliography
