Social pension

Social pension - benefits paid monthly by the Social Insurance Institution to people unable to work. The right to a social pension is available to persons aged 18 or over who live in Poland and who have a decision on total incapacity (permanent or temporary). Social benefits are available to people who have not made a contribution period before losing their health (eg disabled from birth, inactive students and PhD students). This pension accounts for 84% of the lowest total disability pension and is subject to annual adjustment. ZUS accepts and pays the pension since 1 October 2003. It is possible to grant a fixed pension (when the incapacity is permanent) or temporary. The pension is suspended if the recipient benefits more than 70% of the average monthly salary for the quarter for which the data was recently announced by the Central Statistical Office.
