Father Time

Father Time - personification of time. Usually portrayed as an old, bearded man dressed in a robe, holding an hourglass, or other timing device (symbolizing the steady flow of time). An image derived from many sources, including the Grim Reaper and Chronos, the Greek god of time.

Sometimes combined with Mother Nature as a couple, because of the similarity of names, referring to the parents.

On many New Year's Eve occasions, the image of the Father of Time is used as a personification of the last year (or "Old Year"), which refers to the New Year's time (or "New Year"). In this case, old age is often emphasized.
