Gerberga I (opatka w Gandersheim)

Gerberga I (born 840-850; died September 5, 896 or 897) - abbot of the monastery in Gandersheim.

Gerberga was the daughter of Prince Ludolf and Odin of the Billung dynasty. After the death of his older sister Hatumoda in 874, she became an abbot at Gandersheim and was responsible for her death.

Hrosvith of Gandersheim writes in his Ganderheim monastery that Gerberga was engaged to the noble Bernard, but broke off her engagement when she heard a religious vocation. Her fiancée was later ordered in battle. Modern scholars do not believe this story due to the considerable time between Gerbera and Hrosvitha. Literature
