Ignacy Laskowski


Ignacy Laskowski ps. Czerski (born 22 March 1833 in Gorszczyzna - died June 4, 1871 in Bucharest) - Colonel of the insurgents and war chief of the Kaunas in the January Uprising, emigrant.

He graduated from the cadet corps, then the art school in St. Petersburg. Participant of the Crimean War. Member of the Polish Officer's Club in St. Petersburg. After the outbreak of the uprising, he took up insurgency preparations in Lithuania. He became head of the staff of Zygmunt Sierakowski. He participated in the April-May battles until the defeat at the Battle of Birch. He took over from the Sierakowski wounder the function of Kaunas governor, where he was approved on May 18, 1863. He unsuccessfully attempted to break through with his unit on the Baltic Sea to take over the transport of arms. By mid June, he operated with Fr. Antoni Mackiewicz.

As one of the few insurgent commanders, he remained in Lithuania until the end of winter 1864. The last battle occurred on January 2, 1864 at Ibniami. In February he left Jmudź and went to East Prussia. Apparently sentenced to death by the Russian authorities.

He left for France, where he was a co-founder of the Joint Military Society. After 1865 he settled in Romania, where he worked as an engineer. Bibliography
