People of the Book

The People of the Book (Arabic: أهل الكتاب, 'Ahl al- Kitâb) - in the Koran, these are called followers of the two religions of Abraham - Christians and Jews, as well as the Sabbaths (sura 5). Muslims believe that both Jews and Christians have received a message from God in the sacred books of these religions - Torah and Gospel (5:44, 5:46 and 5:66). In these ayats, the authority and importance of these books is further emphasized, which was to be for the Christians and Jews what the Qur'an for Muslims. The Jews rejected the Messenger of Allah and disobeyed the mission of the prophets preceding him (Abraham, Moses). By their disobedience to God they did not enter the Promised Land and have been wandering for 40 years (5:26). Christians are at odds with monotheism, believing in the triune nature of God (5:73, 5:77).

Jews and Christians by their monotheism are distinguished from non-Muslims, they are not treated as pagans (5:69). The surrenders of Christian clerics - priests and monks (5: 82-83) can be found. However, Muslims are not allowed to be friends with their followers (5:51).
