Siege of Jazdowa
The siege of Jazdowa took place during the Lithuanian-Russian invasion in 1262 in Mazovia.
In late spring of this year, the invasion of Lithuanians by the Grand Duke of Lithuania Mendog, aided by the Russian duke of Rusland, fell to Mazovia. Mazovian's surprise was complete. Without great resistance the invaders captured and burned the capital of the Duchy - Płock, crossed the Vistula River and besieged the castle in Jazdów (now Ujazdów in Warsaw). In this place was the Prince of Mazovia Siemowit I with the oldest son Konrad II. The defenders may have been able to withstand the siege, but as a result of the treachery of Goszcza's courtiers, the Lithuanian troops invaded Jazdowa on 23 June.
In the confusion, Prince Siemowit himself was killed and Konrad was sent to Lithuanian captivity for two years. In another version, the Prince of Mazovia was not killed directly in battle, but was murdered after being taken prisoner. Siemowit was to bend at the hands of his own brother-in-law, or Rusyn's Konstantinovich's. Bibliography
