bey
Bey (originally Bey Bey) is a Turkish word for the leader (eg, Janjars, Crimean Tatars).
Title used in the territory of Turkish states, including the Ottoman Empire and Uzbekistan, as well as Persia and Mogilian states, added to the names of the representatives of the nobility, especially with to persons of Turkic origin. It was sometimes abbreviated to Be.
Formerly, senior government officials in Turkey and the rulers of Tunisia were called upon to remain under Turkish influence. Bej was also the title used by the rulers of numerous ordinances in the Caucasus. Now bey in turkish is a form of courtesy.
The female equivalent of the title in India was begam (begum).
