Jokasta (mythology)


Jokasta (also Epikasta, Jokaste, Epikaste, Gr. Ἰοκάστη Iokástē, Latin Iocaste) - in Greek mythology Queen of Thebes.

The wife of King Lajos. Mother, and later, after Lajos's death, Oedipus's wife. She was Kreon's sister.

According to myth, Edyp was expelled from the house as a baby, because the prophet announced that Edyp would commit a paternity and marry his mother. The shepherds found him and gave up the education of a queen who had no children. After some time, Oedipus returns, kills his father and marries Jocasta, not knowing his origin. Two sons are born here: Polinik and Eteokles, and two daughters: Antigone and Isman. When the prophet Tejeshija reveals the truth, Jokasta commits suicide, and Oedipus pranks his eyes and leaves the city. Authoritative control (person):
