Paula Karpinski (born November 6, 1897 in Hamburg, March 8, 2005 in Hamburg) is a German political activist.
Since 1914 she was a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD). In the years 1928-1933 and after 1945 (until the 1960s), she was part of local authorities in Hamburg. In 1931 she first sat in council (local parliament) of Hamburg. She mainly dealt with women. After the party's expulsion in 1933, she lost her post, acting illegally during the period of fascist rule; She spent several weeks in a concentration camp following an unsuccessful attempt on Hitler in July 1944.
In 1946, she regained her place in the City Council of Hamburg. Mayor Max Brauer entrusted her to the Youth Senator in 1946; was the first woman to serve as minister in the local government in Germany. Thanks to its efforts, Hamburg was the first big German city to include a plan to rebuild, among other things. Children's playgrounds. She served as Senator for Youth until 1953 and again in 1957-1961. In 1967, one year after his retirement from active political life, he was honored with one of Hamburg's highest honors, the Otto Stolten Medal. In 2003, local SPD leadership funded the Pauli Karpinski Prize, awarded every two years for his contributions to youth work in Hamburg.
