Cossack National Liberation Movement
The Cossack National Movement (Russian: Казачье национально-освободительное движение, KNOD) - an exile Cossack political group active in the second half. 1930s and during World War II Historical overview
There was no unity among Cossacks white emigrants in the interwar period. Most of the Cossacks were grouped around their leaders, Maj. Gen. M. N. Grabbe, Gen. G. A. Wdowienko, and General N. W. Liachow. The smaller part, but more politically active, formed in the mid- 1930s in Cossack National Center, renamed soon to the Cossack National-Liberation Movement. It was headed by Vasily Glazak. KNOD has proclaimed the nationalist and separatist slogans and definitely anti-Communist and anti-Soviet. He was in favor of winning the independent Cossack state of Kazakia (Казакия), occupying the area of all Cossack lands ("от Сана и до океана"). In their struggle the Cossacks of the KNOD saw the allies of Ukrainian nationalists and Caucasians. Their main enemy - besides the Soviets - was also the entire Russian nation representing the imperial tendencies. During the Second World War KNOD was associated with Germany, hoping that with their help they would create their own country. He was the leader of the emigration of Cossacks. Its representatives participated in the formation of Cossack military units in the service of the German army, and they also prepared and sent cadres for the administration of German-occupied territories inhabited by Cossacks.
