Jan z Jesenice

John of Jesenice (Johann von Gaßnitz,? - 1420) - Czech lawyer and preacher.

In 1397 he became a liberal arts teacher, and in 1408 he became a magister. He was a lawyer in 1407. He was a friend and protector of Jan Hus. In 1409 he tried (together with Jan Hus and Krystian of Prachatic) to release Stefan from Palcze and Stanislas from Znojmo.

He defended the kutnohorsky decree. In 1410 he studied law in Bologna and represented Husa in the papal court. However, in court he was banned from representing Husa, in 1411 was banned from leaving Rome, and in 1412 was imprisoned. He escaped from prison to Bologna where he was captured, but his friendship with the university was freed. At that time he obtained his doctorate. After throwing a curse on 29 July he went to the Czech Republic, where he began to show the nullity of the curse imposed on Jan Hus. In 1413 he represented Husa at a synod and before a committee convened by King Wenceslas IV.

After the Hussite split, he spoke against the taboos. He died in the prison of Oldrzych II from Rożmberk. Authoritative control (person):
