Legion bell
Legio Campana - Roman legion, mainly composed, as the name implies, from the Campagnars.
According to Polibius, he counted 4,000 heavy infantry under the command of Vibelius Decius. Their most important mission with which they were sent was to seize the city of Rhegion during the Rome war with Pyrrhus, the king of Epirus. This was probably the case after the battle of Heraklea, after 280 BC. According to legend, under the pretext of the city's release by the Thurian Pyrrhus, they murdered all men by taking their wives for themselves.
Vibelius Decius became a tyrant of Rhegion over time and made contact with the Mamerites, former mercenaries of the Syracuse tycoon Agatokles. Decius reigned until 270 BC, when the city was captured after a long siege by conscript Gnejus Cornelius Bluzon's troops. Only about 300 soldiers were imprisoned from the entire Campana legion, and soon they laid their heads under the ax of the Roman Forum. Bibliography
