Medium square sound pressure

Medium square sound pressure

Mean square of sound pressure - defines a time-weighted average of the sound pressure level.

Averaging is performed by the human ear, and rapid changes in sound pressure are not perceived. Sound level meters have the ability to manually set the time constant averaging (the length of the time intervals in which the pressure is averaged). For a person to record a given pitch, 10 full pressure changes are required.

Pattern for the average square of sound pressure: & # x27E8; p 2 & # x27E9; = 1 τ & # x222B; 0 τ p 2 ( t ) d t {\displaystyle \left\langle {p^{2}}\right\rangle ={\frac {1}{\tau }}\int \limits _{0}^{\tau }{p^{2}\left(t\right)\,dt}}

where: τ {\displaystyle \tau } - time constant averaging, t {\displaystyle t} - time from the averaging interval.
