Protective measures of the European Union market
The protection measures of the European Union market are aimed at protecting the European Union market as well as the EU producers. Safeguard measures can be broadly divided into anti-dumping measures, anti-subsidy measures and measures to protect against excessive imports. Protective measures are introduced on the basis of proceedings conducted by the European Commission. There are four types of proceedings:
All protective measures are in addition to the applicable customs tariff.
The anti-dumping measures apply when a country outside the European Union applies price discrimination (dumping) and the Union industry requests this from the European Commission.
The anti-subsidy measures apply when a country outside the European Union applies specific duties that harm the interests of EU producers.
Anti-overrun protection measures apply when sudden increases in imports become dangerous for some European Union countries.
