Parr (architects)


Parr or Pahr, Bahr, Pair (owned by de Pario) - a family of Italian architects from Bissone, builders and stone masters (so called Komasks), operating in Europe in the 16th century (Lower Silesia, Mecklenburg, Sweden ). In Poland, the Parr family contributed to the adoption (mainly in Silesian architecture), the forms of the Northern Italian Renaissance.

Francis Parr (born?, died 1580), who settled in Chojnów, conducted construction work in Lower Silesia. Works in Germany: Works in Sweden since 1572, together with Krzysztof, Dominik and Jan Baptysta Parr (son of Jakub Parr, brother Francis), commissioned by King John III Vase

Jakub Parr (born 1510, died 1575), in the years 1539-1540 he worked at the castle in Bolków. In 1543 he settled in Brzeg, as the court architect of the Duke of Legnica-Brzeg Jerzy II. In the years 1544-1566 his Jakub Parr was involved in the expansion of the Castle of the Silesian Piasts in Brzeg (designed by Francis Parr). He also rebuilt the Renaissance Brest Town Hall, made in the years 1570-1572 according to the design of Bernard Niuron. Jakub Parr, from 1568 to 1572, also participated in construction works at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Jan Baptysta Parr - son of James Parr and brother of Francis, Dominika and Krzysztof. Initially he helped his father during the construction of the castle in Brzeg, then worked in Schwerin. From 1572 he worked in Sweden for John III Vais where he rebuilt the Kalmar Castle and then at Borgholm Castle. Already in 1574 he left the post and was replaced by his brother Dominika. He soon returned to grace and built the Alvsborg Castle in Gothenburg between 1577 and 1578. Bibliography
