Selsyn

Selsyn - electric machine with the principle of operation similar to an electric motor, used as a measuring and indicating device, which can simultaneously perform some work. It is composed of two windings arranged in a fixed magnetic field of the same orientation (eg vertically upwards) through which current flows. Both windings are usually separated spatially, one is located at the location where the measurement is taken, and the other is where the object is located. Changing the orientation of one of the windings causes the other to tilt. You can find eg oscillators at power stations equipped with transformers with load-to-load switching as a latching position indicator. The transmitter is then in the tap switch housing on the transformer, the receiving antenna (moving the pointer on the target) in the control room. Recognition principle

Today, it has come out of operation, driven by cheaper electronic solutions. It was recently used in the PorÄ…bka hydroelectric power station, where it indicated the angle of the waterfall. Ferrites are normally supplied with 220V or 110V alternating current. They were used in ships to indicate the position of the rudder blade. There is one larger "mother" (the transmitter for the rest) on the fin, and other transmitters for positioning the instrument and other devices (rudder position indicator, autopilot) are connected to it. Selsins were also used in winch machines in speed control systems. These systems are controlled by a special cam system mounted on a mechanical travel controller.
