Leydig cells, Leydig interstitial cells - cells found in male gonads functioning as androgenic.

They are spread in small groups in the interstitial space in the testes. They have typical features of steroidogenic cells, including specific Reinke protein-specific crystals only. They produce and secrete the main male sex hormone: testosterone.

Under the control of lutropin, they produce and release testosterone and renin, which through angiotensin-producing plasma regulates testosterone synthesis.

The collection of these cells is called the interstitium gland.
