Falendish - former name for high quality fabric. Originally it meant woolen fabric imported from England through Dutch or German merchants using the term vijn londisz, derived from the adjective vijn (first class, excellent) and from the Dutch name London - Londen. In older records there is also a German version - fein lündisch, which could have been the North German variant of Lunden. In Dutch and German, vijn or fein also means good quality (German Feinware). In the past it was also used to refer to fein holländisch for a good cloth from the Netherlands. The names were probably used in the 18th century.
