Middle school in Panevezys

Contemporary view of junior high school

High school in Panevėžys (Panevėžio gimnazija, Panevėžio Juozo Balcikonio gimnazija) - a secondary school operating in Panevėž from the second half of the 18th century until the present. History

The junior high school was founded on the initiative of the starost of Krzysztof Debski monastery of the Piarists. It was famous for the high level of teaching taught in Polish. In 1834 the school was transformed into an urban school. In 1858-1863, it functioned as a gymnasium, but as a result of the January Uprising it was closed by tsarist authorities. From the 1970s onwards, there was a teacher's seminar in the middle school walls.

After the independence of Lithuania in 1918, the Gymnasium resumed its activities, this time in Lithuanian. Bibliography
