Mycobacterium bovis

Mycobacterium bovis - an aerobic, slowly growing bacterium belonging to the Mycobacterium family, which causes tuberculosis in cattle. Related to human tuberculosis tuberculosis; may in specific cases cause disease in humans, breaking the species barrier.

M. Bovis is usually transmitted to humans through infected milk, although it can also be spread by air. At present, infections in humans are rather rare, mainly due to poor pasteurisation or drinking of unpasteurized milk. This is especially true in developing countries.
