Orach Chaim synagogue in Knyszyn
Orach Chaim Synagogue in Knyszyn - a non-existent synagogue located in Knyszyn at the market square of the Grodno Street.
The synagogue was built between 1898 and 1900. In the years 1934-1935 it was rebuilt. During the Second World War, after the Soviet troops entered Knyszyn, the synagogue was partially devastated and destined for the fodder warehouse. At that time, it was completely rebuilt, all the architectural details were removed and the roof was demolished. In 1982-1986 it was finally demolished.
The brick synagogue building was erected on a neoclassical-style rectangle. Inside, in the eastern part, there was a main prayer room, which was accessed through the vestibule, above which was a woman's gallery. The whole was covered with a gable roof, on the tops and in the corners of which were the stars of David. On the front of the eastern wall were the plates of the Decalogue. The main prayer hall illuminated the ten tall, semi-circular windows piled up with pilasters.
After the reconstruction of the war, the synagogue lost all its architectural details and religious symbols. The shape of the windows was changed to rectangular and hipped roofs, called envelopes. Bibliography
