Sylvia Sweeney


Sylvia Sweeney (born 3 October 1956) is a Canadian journalist, television producer and former Olympic athlete.

Sweeney was born and raised in Montreal. She attended McGill University where she became the star of basketball team McGill Martlets. Later she played for Concordia Stingers and Lauretian Lady Vees. Sweeney and the Concordia Stingers team reached the national finals in 1977, and Laurentian Lady Vees won the 1979 championship. Sweeney was also a Canadian basketball player in 1976 and 1984. She was also the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the International Basketball Federation of the FIBA ​​World Cup in 1979.

In the late 1980s, Sweeney joined television, became a journalist, and worked for the CTV Television Network. Sweeney is the daughter of music teacher Daisy Sweeney and the niece of jazz performer Oscar Peterson. One of her most famous television productions was In the Key of Oscar, released in 1992 and describing her uncle.
