Barbara Massalska
Barbara Massalska (born 1927 in Warsaw, died in 1980) is a Polish painter and pedagogue at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.
During the war, the artist spent time in Warsaw. As a member of the Gray Ranks she was a liaison officer in the Warsaw Uprising. After the fall of the uprising she was imprisoned by the Germans and deported. She returned to Warsaw in the autumn of 1946 and later went to the coast.
Studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (now: Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk), graduated in 1951. In the years 1952-1980 she worked in a Gdansk university. From 1964 to 1970 she ran the Painting Studio and then the Art Education School at the State Higher School of the Arts in Gdansk.
The artist was involved in creating polychromies of tenement houses at Dluga Street and Dluga Street in Gdansk. She practiced painting easel, monumental, designed mosaics, wall painting and stained glass. Large-format images of Massalska, characterized by subdued colors. They feature monumental scenes on biblical and mythological themes ("Noah's Ark", "Grave", "Valley of the Apocalypse", "Last Judgment", "Thanatos", "Knight and Dragon"), landscapes (" Spring ") and abstractions (" Comedy "series).
