Entoptic phenomena

Entoptic phenomena, phosphines, solid shapes - visual sensations created under special conditions that are independent of the external light source - are the source of the human nervous system.

They can be triggered by various means such as: electrocause, sensory deprivation, hyperventilation, rhythmic movement, and psychoactive substances.

The anthropologists David Lewis-Williams and Thomas Dowson believe that geometric symbols appearing in prehistoric art are proof of the knowledge of hallucinogenic means by primitive peoples.
