Jan Kunowski
Jan Kunowski of Lodz's coat of arms - starosta Chernihowski (1622-1653) and royal secretary.
He came from a noble family from the Crown who moved to the Mozyrski district. Poet, soldier, politician and diplomat born at the end of the 16th century (died after 1654). He began his career with military service in the hull of Aleksander Korwin Gosiewski. Participated in two military campaigns in 1615-1616 (unblock Smolensk) and 1621-1622 (inflatable war), thanks to which he was awarded the title of starost of Chernigov. After the death of Sigismund III Vasa, he participated as a defender of Smolensk, where he showed heroism.
The end of the war with Moscow radically changed Jan Kunowski's position. With the protection of Alexander Gosiewski, he received the office of the royal secretary. On the other hand, the Diet ordered the structure of eastern annexes. In 1635 the duchy of Chernihiv was transformed into a province with two poviats (Chernihiv and Novgorod-Siewierz). In the poviats were governors of the castle. In Chernihiv, the county seat was exonerated. Thus Kunowski lost his dignity, which probably prompted him to engage fully in the royal court as secretary. He was there by King Ladislaus IV Vasa, used as a specialist in Moscow affairs. The most important accomplishment was the mission of deputies to Moscow from 1636. It was intended to lead to the designation of the border line and the exploration of the moods of the Moscow state.
In 1639 another important event changed the life of the secretary. At that time, his longtime patron - Aleksander Korwin Gosiewski - died. Jan Kunowski collected all his works devoted to the deceased, writing down and dedicating to his son Krzysztof Korwin Gosiewski. At that time he was also active in the nobility. As a Reformed evangelical, he became involved in the activities of the Lithuanian One. He was a laureate of the provincial synod three times (1639, 1649, 1654). In addition, he was elected three times to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania for the first time in 1621, from the Mozyrski district, the second in 1636 from Smolensk and the third time in 1651 from the Lidzbark district.
