Military Ballistic Missile Agency
The Army Ballistic Missile Agency is a United States Army body established to work on long-range ballistic missiles and rockets capable of carrying artificial satellites into orbit of the Earth. Appointed November 22, 1955 as a result of the decision of the US Secretary of Defense, on the consolidation of military institutions working on long-range ballistic missiles, into a single body. As a result of ABMA's work, there were rockets from the Jupiter family and Saturn I. The head of the agency was Wernher von Braun. In 1960 it was incorporated into NASA's structure as the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center.
