Egerius

Egerius - son of Aruns, born after the death of his father, who was the brother of Old Tarkwini. As the father of Aruns and his grandfather Egerius Demartos died shortly after his son, not knowing that his daughter-in-law was pregnant, he did not leave his grandson any property. Thus, Levius [34] and Dionysius of Halicarnasu [III 50] give the folklore etymology of Egerius, deriving them from poverty.

When Uncle Egerius, Tarkwiniuz Stary, took over the Sabine city of Collatia, Egerius as his nephew was given power over this place. [Liv. I 38]. According to the Dionysius of Halicarnas [III 50], he was given the nickname Collatinus, but he is usually used to refer to the son of Egerius, Lucius Tarquinius Collatinus.

Egerius then commanded the Roman forces in the expedition against Fidenae [Dionys. III 57]. When the Old Tarkwinius fought with the Etruscs, they took the city and left the garrison there. Tarkwinini divided his forces in two parts - with an army of mostly Romans, he set off against the Etruscan cities, and Egerius entrusted a portion of the army consisting mainly of the Latin allies. Egerius's forces occupied a dangerous position near the city and were almost completely destroyed, as the Etruscan garrison received reinforcements, but Fidenae, however, acquired the Tarkwinius himself, returning from Etruria, where he was victorious.

Information about Egerius was provided by Liwius [I 34, 38] and by Dionysius of Halicarnas [III 50, 57, IV 64]. Bibliography
