Abilena Lizaniasza

Abilene Lizanias or Abilen - an ancient region around the capital city, ancient Abia, in Celesyria on the river Abana. The city is home to the Suq Wadi Barada (called Abil-es-Suk by early Arab geographers), about 20 km northeast of Damascus, in Syria. The term "Lizanias" refers to the governor of this region.

This place contains ruins of temples, waterworks and other remnants and inscriptions on the banks of the river. Although the names Abel and Abil differ in their origins and meaning, their similarity has made Abel's burial site traditionally. The city is mentioned in the New Testament (Luke 3: 1). The titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church, Abilenus Lysaniae. Since 1995 the bishop is Georges Kahhalé Zouhaïrat. Bibliography
