Christopher Longuet-Higgins
Christopher Longuet-Higgins (born April 11, 1923 in Kent, March 27, 2004) is a professor at the University of Sussex, starting his career as a chemistry theorist.
For its greatest achievements, it is important to recognize the problem of conical cutting, as well as the introduction of permutation groups in the description of elastic molecules. For these and other accomplishments has been elected a member of the Royal Society. At the age of 40 he turned to artificial intelligence and in 1967 founded the Department of Machine Intelligence and Perception at the University of Edinburgh. He also worked on various aspects of machine perception of speech and music. His work on machine perception of music was awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Music by the University of Sheffield.
