Edmond-Charles Genet
Edmond-Charles Genêt (born January 8, 1763, died July 14, 1834) is a French diplomat.
Between 1789 and 1792 he was a French Chargé d'affaires in St. Petersburg. In 1792 Empress Katarzyna II recognized him as persona non grata.
In 1793, the French Guerrillos sent him to the United States as an ambassador, but his activity of recruiting American volunteers to the French Army was met with dislike by the Americans.
However, when the power of France was taken over by a radical Jacobin, George Washington gave him political asylum.
