Elkites, Elkadians, Elkeys - an ancient syncretistic sect derived from the Ebionites and deriving from Gnostic ideas, existing between the 2nd and 5th century.

The founder of the group was living in Trajan's time (at the turn of the 1st and 2nd centuries) on the Syrian-Parthian border of Elkaza (according to sources: Elchasaí, Elksaí, Elkesaïtaí). It is certain that such a figure existed, but its name may be symbolic and secondary to the name of the group he founded, because the term Elkazaic could also refer directly to the Essenic sphere called the Sons of the Mysterious Force (→ Ebion). Elkazai claimed that the Son of God was manifested in the form of a huge angel, who gave him the Holy Book. This angel was accompanied by the second, who was also the sister of the first and the Holy Spirit. The elkhazite apocrypha has not survived, and the main sources of knowledge about the group's views remain the information contained in the Epiphanius writings of Salamina and Origen. The Elkas are also likely authors of the writings attributed to Clement (the so-called pseudo-nucleus Homilies). <> The Elkas practiced the multiple baptisms (accepted in robes), kept the provisions of the Mosaic Law like circumcision and Sabbath, and refused to pray in the direction of Jerusalem. They did not eat meat and rejected the scriptures. Paul. They thought that the Person of the Holy Spirit was female (female). Bibliography
