Hilderyk (Prince Spoleto)


Hilderyk (born? 740) - the prince of Spoleto short in the years 739-740. He was appointed by King Liutprand to the place of rebellious Tracyund II.

Liutprand scored on June 16 Spoleto and appointed Hilderyk as the new prince. Trazymund escaped to Rome, where Liutprand besieged him. Soon the peace between the king and the pope was negotiated with the help of the envoys of Charles the Hammer of the Franks. In the meantime, Trazymund took advantage of this, merged with the papal army and the forces of Godescalca of Benovent and regained the duchy in December 740. He also killed Hilderyk. Bibliography
