(Akashic Shamash) - In the Mesopotamian mythology, the god of the sun, the son of Nanny and the goddess Ningal, and the twin brother of Inanna. His wife was Sherida (Aja). The main temples of Utu, called E-babbar ("White House"), were located in Sippar and in Lars.
He was regarded as the god of the sun, which from dawn to dusk takes a journey through the sky. Since he sees everything happening on earth, he is considered to be the god of justice, truth, and law. He was a judge on earth and in heaven (at the top of the stele of the Codex Hammurabi is presented as the god-legislator, giving the right to Hammurabi).
