Artaxes II
Artaxes II, Artoyes II orm: Արտաշես Երկրորդ (d. 20 p.n.) - King of Armenia in the 30s p.n. - 20 p.n. of the Artaxis dynasty. The older son of Artavazdes II.
After taking and losing Artavazdes II he took the throne of Armenia. He fought with the Romans, but after the defeats he had to seek refuge in the Party. He received military assistance to help Armenia again. He successfully fought with his father, Artavazdes of Media. By his orders, all Romans were murdered, within the borders of his state. One may assume that this was a retaliation for his father's death on the orders of Cleopatra VII and Mark Antony. This action affected the rejection of Emperor August when Artaxes II by the members sought to release his relatives from Roman captivity.
In 20 r. p.n.e. Some of the Armenian nobles sent a petition to the Emperor Augustus, requesting a photo of the throne of Artaxes II and handing it over to Tigranes, who was under Roman custody. The emperor agreed and decided to send the legions under Tiberius to carry out the enthronement and removal of the present king. Before the Romans arrived, Artaxes was murdered by relatives, so that Prince Tigranes could take the throne without a fight.
