Cobra (artistic group)

Cobra - an international avant-garde artistic group founded in Paris in 1948 at the International Conference on Vanishing Art Documentation. It was mainly in Brussels until 1950. It included painters, writers and poets from Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. The name was created from the first letters of capitals of these countries: COpenhaga, Brussels and Amsterdam. The group published the magazine "Cobra".

The group was initiated by Danish Asger Jorn. The artist's assumption was a spontaneous and spontaneous art liberated from all norms. They created surrealistic and abstract images in the informel type. They were inspired by children's art, mentally ill people, myths and art of non-European countries.
