Heterogeneous mixture

A heterogeneous mixture - in which the individual components, although mixed, are located in separate areas that can be distinguished on a microscopic scale, eg a mixture of sugar and sand.

We say heterogeneous mixtures when different components of some mixtures can be identified by the naked eye or by using a microscope. Their examples are different rocks found in nature (eg granite), as well as mixtures of sugar and sand, no matter how thoroughly mixed it. Milk that looks like pure substance is a heterogeneous mixture: one can see single fat beads under the microscope. Bibliography
