Rudolf Muižzemnieks


Rūdolfs Muižzemnieks (born May 15, 1895 in Salgale, Latvia, Russia, March 26, 1980 in Boston) is a Latvian military lieutenant colonel, commander of the 1st Battalion of the 1st Latvian SS Border Regiment. then 2 school battalions at the end of World War II On December 9, 1918, he joined the newly formed Latvian army, earning the rank of Lieutenant. Served in 1 Volunteer Company in Elkhora, then 2 Battalions in Kies. In June 1919 he was transferred to 4 Independent Battalions, and in August of that year to the 2nd Infantry Regiment in Windawa. In May 1920 he was promoted to captain. From April 1921 he was deputy commander of the military district of Liepaja, and from May 1923 - commander of the military district of Valmiera. In 1924, he became the military commander of the town of Liepaja. In 1926, he was transferred to the 3rd Infantry Regiment in Jełgawa. From 1938 he served in the 12th Infantry Regiment in Bauska as battalion commander and lieutenant colonel. In February 1940 he departed on his own request for military service. After the occupation of Latvia by the German army in 1941, he cooperated with the occupying forces. In February 1944, he took command of the 1st Battalion of the 1st Latvian SS Border Police in the Waffen-Obersturmbannführer der SS. In August of this year he became commander of the 2nd Battalion. He became captives of the Allied forces, and then went to emigrate. He died in the USA on March 26, 1980.

He was decorated with Russian Order of St. Stanislas class 3 with swords, Order of St. Anna 4th Class, Latvian Order of the Three Stars of the 5th Class.
