Time of tide

Story

Millionaire Gordon Cload, thanks to his fabulous wealth, is able to provide a luxurious existence not only to himself but also to his whole family; Family members do not have to worry about any financial barriers. This goes on until the rich man dies unexpectedly during the bombing. All of his fortune is in the hands of his recently married wife, Rosaleen. Cloads are desperate. There is no doubt that if Gordon had predicted his premature death, he would have made a will where Rosaleen would have written most of the estate, but would not miss the rest of the family.

In the absence of a will, the Cloisters remained without a penny; Over time, they get worse. They decide to present the whole awkward matter of Rosaleen. A widow understands Cload's family and wants to support them, but her brother, David Hunter, is forbidden. It was a commando, a young man with a rather unapologetic disposition; She has a huge impact on her sister.

One day, however, the lot to Cloads smiles. A mysterious man arrives at nearby hotel "Pod Jeleniem". He claims Rosaleen's first husband, Major Underhay, is still alive. This gentleman, named Enoch Arden, first calls David and asks for money in return for the Cloisters of the Underhay. They would have to do something about it - if it turned out that Rosaleen's second marriage would be invalid at the time Rosaleen and Gordon were married, she would not have any rights to Gordon's estate. With a nosy maid, information about the Major arrives at Rowley Cload's ear.

A few days later, Enoch Arden is found dead in his hotel room with a broken head. The first suspicions are on David Hunter, who was in that tragic evening in the vicinity of the hotel, and, moreover, had the strongest motive to kill Arden. Coroner orders David to be arrested. There is an interesting case, too - a friend of Underhay, Major Porter, claims that denat is Rosaleen's first husband in his own right. This is even more damaging to Hunter, because his motive now becomes even stronger. Hunter's guilt does not want to believe Lynn Marchmont - she was in love with Rosaleen. He wants to break his engagement with Rowley and leave with David in the world. In time, the police start to blame David for his misdeeds, because in the evening of Arden's death a mysterious young woman was seen in his room. Meanwhile, two more deaths occur - Major Porter commits suicide (shoots himself in the head) and Rosaleen Cload dies, overdosing morphine.

In an explanation of the case, a famous Belgian detective, Hercules Poirot, helps the helpless police, and it is he who falls for the right solution.
