Richard de Jaxa Malachowski

Graduated from the Paris School of Fine Arts. After graduation in 1911 he came to Lima to take over the leadership of the newly created Faculty of Architecture at the College of Mining and Construction (Escuela Especial de Ingenieros de Construcciones Civilees de Minas del Perú, now Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería). He headed the department for thirty-three years. Three years after his arrival he married Peruwian, María Benavides Diez Canseco. Lima was the creator of the reconstruction of the Old Town, the reconstruction of the cathedral and the President's Palace (1938), and also built a number of representative buildings, including the Archbishop's Palace (1924), the City Council Palace (1944), the Club Nacional building, Banco Italiano (Today Banco de Crédito) and Edificio Rimac (1919-1924). He was the creator of the project of one of the most important streets of Lima: Paseo de la República, as well as the estates of Santa María del Mar, Urbanización La Cantuta and Santa María de Chosica.
