The Duchy of Legnica

Coat of arms of the Principality of Legnicki since 1343

The legnica duke's character has evolved during the existence of the duchy, its uniqueness dictated by the need to distinguish the Legnica Piasts from other Silesian branches of the family. At first the legnica princes stamped on the Silesian Eagle, but then the coat was modified. Since 1343 there existed today the image on the shield of the French or Spanish pattern. The emblem of the Duchy of Legnica, as a result of the multiple union with the Brzeg River and the connection of Prince Fryderyk the Great to the Piast dynasties, also became a sign of the Duchy of Legnice-Brzesko-WoĊ‚owski.
