Torrente Castellano

  • Torrente Castellano - a torrent in the Abruzzo and Ancona Marches, the main right-bank tributary of the river Tronto, which is at its bottom the natural border between these regions of central Italy; approx. 40 km. Fifty years ago the water in the creek was so clean that it was classified as fit for drinking. Torrente Castellano has its source in the Monti della Laga massif in Abruzzo. The stream flows through the territory of the March, where its course is characterized by numerous small cascades. It goes to the river Tronto near the town of Ascoli Piceno.

In summer, the banks of the river are filled with sunbathing enthusiasts. They are also convenient for long walks.

The river gave the name of the municipality that flows through it - Valle Castellana. It is located at the foot of Montagna dei Fiori in Abruzzo. On the creek there is also a dam, which created the artificial lake - Lago di Talvacchia. From the lake draws water. There is also a hydroelectric power station. It is a mecca for fishing lovers. A water mill, Cartiera Papale, is located near the river, where it flows into the Tronto River. There is a cycling-walking trail along the Tronto in the direction of Porto d'Ascoli and the Adriatic coast in the future.
