Kara mutylacyjna
Blinded by Piotr Włostowic in 1145
mutilate punishment (mutilatio mutilatio) - a disgraceful corporal punishment consisting in the deprivation of particular parts of the body, popular in the Middle Ages, already known in antiquity. It was used against criminals from lower states as a punishment reflecting. For example, limbs, nose, ears, breast, blindness (eyes), tongue out. Kazimierz Wielki's statutes mentioned: ear trimming (puncture), piercing or cutting of the hand and stinging with hot iron.
The types of punitive mutilations were punishments on the skin (eg stigmatizing or ear-piercing, from which a rattlesnake speech comes from.)
Polish common law knew this kind of punishment also in the times of the First Republic, although their significance was reduced. Bibliography
