Sophie Mannerheim (born 1863, died 1928) is a Finnish organizer of modern nursing. Her brother was Carl Gustaf Mannerheim.
From 1899-1902 she attended the Florence Nightingale Nursing School in London. Then she was employed as a nurse in a sanatorium for children suffering from tuberculosis. Later she worked as a district nurse in the Finnish harbor city Porwoo. In the years 1904-1928 she served as a superior nurse at the Helsinki Surgical Hospital.
Since 1889 she has been teaching courses for nurses. In 1905, she was elected president of the Finnish Nursing Association. In 1906 she contributed to the opening of the first Helsinki Nursery School. She was also the organizer of postgraduate training for nurses.
In 1918, she founded the Children's Palace. This institution provided assistance to homeless mothers and their children. With the help of Sweden, it was expanded with a pediatric institute, a pediatric hospital and a pediatric nursing training center. She then formed the Children's Guardian League. Sophie Mannerheim, where she was vice-president for many years.
In 1907 she participated in the work of the international nursing movement. From 1922 to 1925, she was the Chairwoman of the International Nurses Council.
It was buried at the Hietaniemi Cemetery in Helsinki, where there are graves of well-known Finns. all the Presidents of Finland. Bibliography
