Avalanche detector

The avalanche detector is an electronic device used to quickly locate tourists buried under the snow (avalanche). The detector can operate in the transmit or receive mode. The device should be worn in all terrain affected areas by avalanches and set to broadcast.

In this mode, it emits approximately 1 second of short electromagnetic pulse at 457 kHz. If one of the tourists is caught by an avalanche, the others will switch their equipment to reception and in this mode they will indicate the distance and direction to the equipment being filled by the snow with the victim, allowing it to be found and excavated.

Well, the avalanche detector is called Pieps, from the Austrian company, which is one of the manufacturers of these devices. Other manufacturers include Ortovox, Mammut and Backcountry Access.

Currently, devices manufactured by different manufacturers are fully compatible.
